The CBS International Business School (CBS) is a state-recognized, private business school that emerged in 2020 from the individual brands Cologne Business School (CBS) and European Management School (EMS). At its locations in Cologne, Mainz and Potsdam, it offers mainly English-language business management courses with the academic degrees Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Science, Master of Arts, Master of Science and MBA. The university is run by the CBS Cologne Business School GmbH.

history

The development of the CBS International Business School is linked to the European Business and Language Academy, which was founded in 1908 as a private academy on the site of today's Cologne campus. In the 1993/1994 winter semester, the European Business and Language Academy (EWS) introduced the bachelor's degree for the first time under the new name “International Campus”. In 1998, the courses of this business administration Bachelor model were the first in Germany to be accredited by FIBAA. One year later, the university was renamed “Cologne Business School - International Campus”, which can still be found today in the acronym “CBS” of the university name.

The CBS expanded for the first time in 2006 and founded the European Management School (EMS) as its second location, today's "Campus Mainz". CBS has been part of the Stuttgart Klett Group since 2016 and was awarded the IACBE accreditation (International Accreditation Council for Business Education) in 2018.

With the redesign of the brand in 2020, the CBS International Business School presents itself as a joint university group with the slogan “Creating tomorrow”.

Their portfolio includes face-to-face courses in German or English, which can be studied full-time, dual, or alongside work or training.

The lecturers mostly come from business and science and transfer their practical knowledge directly into teaching. In addition, practical course content, such as business projects and business simulation games, in which ethical issues and theories of sustainable management are discussed, are integrated into the curricula .

All study programs at the CBS International Business School are regularly accredited by the Foundation for International Business Administration Accreditation (FIBAA) and the Science Council. Institutionally, it received accreditation from the International Accreditation Council for Business Education (IACBE).

research

At the core of the research work at the CBS are the two areas of sustainable management and digitization, which are expressed in the concept of “Corporate Digital Responsibility”. Other current research clusters include: "Education & Methods", "Business Transformation", "Entrepreneurship & Innovation", "Leadership, People & Organization" and "Financial Markets & Rising Economics", all of which are viewed in the context of globalization.

The research structure of the CBS International Business School

The “Business Transformation” cluster encompasses all steps of an entrepreneurial value chain and is dedicated to questions of how these value chain levels must be transformed or realigned through sustainable management and digitization. "Entrepreneurship & Innovation" , as another cluster, is dedicated to establishing digital and sustainable business models. "Leadership, People & Organization" places a special focus on the constantly increasing demands on the leadership culture, personnel management practices and the organization of a company. The “Financial Markets & Rising Economies” cluster plays a special role in the context of sustainable management and digitization. The fast-growing, emerging economies face key challenges in terms of climate protection, energy consumption, or protection of human rights, while they shape their growth and their role in a globalized economy. Finally, the “Education & Methods” cluster is of particular importance as a research basis. In addition to the implementation of integrated curricula for sustainable management and digitization, educational institutions are faced with the challenge of implementing new methods for research and teaching as well as finding instruments that document learning success over the long term.

internationality

The internationalization of the university is reflected in the international orientation of its English-language courses and in the international network of currently 130 partner universities worldwide (as of February 2020). The CBS also has an Erasmus Charter for Higher Education (ECHE), which makes it part of the Erasmus + program funded by the EU Commission.

The semester abroad is integrated into the curricula of the English-language BA and BSc courses as a compulsory part of the course. The semesters abroad are made possible via a mobility window in the 5th semester of the course and are completed at the CBS partner universities. Internships abroad are also supported and funded by the CBS Career Service.

The CBS student body is characterized by a high degree of diversity with a share of over 20% international students in all courses. The integration of international students is promoted through close academic and social support through consultation hours, various events and German courses at the CBS.

Center for Advanced Sustainable Management

The Center for Advanced Sustainable Management (CASM) was founded in 2016 - from the Dr. Jürgen Meyer Endowed Chair for International Business Ethics and Sustainability - founded at the CBS. The CASM has been headed by René Schmidpeter and Patrick Bungard since it was founded. The CASM deals with questions of corporate social responsibility, international economic and business ethics, sustainability and social innovation. It integrates and promotes research and training on relevant sustainability and CSR topics within the university. The aim of the CASM is also to generate an active transfer of knowledge between science and business practice through corporate cooperation. The center has developed relationships with key companies in the field of sustainable management as well as with chambers of commerce, ministries of economics, NGOs, think tanks and thought leaders at local and international level. Together they work to make sustainability the new norm in business practice and in training for sustainable management. Since 2018, the CASM has been a partner in various international research collaborations that deal with the development and piloting of new teaching formats for sustainable management, as well as their effectiveness.
