Casalgrande is a northern Italian municipality ( comune ) with 19,062 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) in the province of Reggio Emilia in Emilia-Romagna . The municipality borders the province of Modena .

history

There is a Celtic necropolis near the place. In the Middle Ages the place belonged partly as a fiefdom to church princes in Parma and Nonantola . From the 12th century, local families ruled the place. Finally, Niccolò III succeeded. d'Este to seize power over the place in 1409.

The former Strada Statale 467 ( Strada Bassa ) leads through the village . Casalgrande is also on the non-electrified Reggio nell'Emilia - Sassuolo railway .
