Cem Pamiroğlu (born September 17, 1957 in Istanbul ) is a former Turkish football player . Through his many years of work for Fenerbahçe Istanbul , he is very strongly associated with this club. On fan and club pages he is seen as one of the most important players in club history. With 279 first division appearances for Fenerbahçe he is after Müjdat Yetkiner (429 appearances) and Rüştü Reçber (293 appearances), the player with the third most frequent Süper Lig appearances in the club's history. He was also the team captain at Fenerbahçe from the summer of 1983 to the summer of 1985.

Player career

society

Pamiroğlu was born in 1957 in the Turkish metropolis of Istanbul and began playing football in the youth of Fenerbahçe Istanbul . Here he was appointed to the Turkish U-18 national team in 1975 and then played regularly for the Turkish national youth team. For the 1976/77 season he was accepted into the professional team by the then head coach Ilie Datcu and played his first game during the TSYD Cup encounter against Adanaspor . By winning this pre-season tournament he was able to book his first title win with his club. While he was regularly used in the cup competitions, he was hardly considered in the league by Datcu. It was only with the departure of Datcus and the hiring of the new coach Tomislav Kaloperović that Pamiroğlu gained a regular place and kept it, except for injury-related losses, until the end of his career. He celebrated his first championship in his second season, in the 1977/78 season .

The following years Pamiroğlu could not prevail with his club in the fight for supremacy in Turkish football. In the four years between 1978 and 1982 you could only win the Turkish Football Cup once in the summer of 1979 and the Prime Minister's Cup at the end of the 1980/81 season . Although they were TSYD cup winners three times during this time , this cup was not given great prestige.

Only again in the 1982/83 season Fenerbahçe prevailed against the other competitors and was able to achieve the double in Turkish football by winning the Turkish championship and the Turkish football cup . In addition, they won the TSYD tournament held before the season . After these successes, the long-time team captain Alpaslan Eratlı declared the end of his playing career at the end of the season and handed over the captain's armband to Pamiroğlu. In his first season as captain, Pamiroğlu and his team lost the championship race to the then big competitor Trabzonspor . In the Turkish Supercup encounter of the same season they could prevail with a 1-0 win against Trabzonspor. In the 1984/85 season Pamiroğlu was able to win the Turkish championship for the third time in his career and for the first time as team captain and on top of that defend the Turkish Supercup title in a game against arch rivals Galatasaray Istanbul . The following season reached Fenerbahçe Istanbul far behind only a fifth place in the table and ended the season without a title.

The 1986/87 season started disappointingly for both Pamiroğlu and his club. First Pamiroğlu lost his armband to Müjdat Yetkiner , then Fenerbahçe did not start well in the league. At the beginning of the season, the club let high performers like Erdoğan Arıca , Yaşar Duran , İlyas Tüfekçi , Selçuk Yula , Engin Verel and İlyas Tüfekçi go. Several new players were brought in, but they did not perform as expected. Branko Stanković , who is considered strict, was hired as a coach . He immediately fell out with the players, expecting them to change their diet according to his ideas. So he expected them to eat raw meat. There was a disagreement in the team. B. culminated in a fight between the captain Müjdat Yetkiner and Abdülkerim Durmaz . On top of that, coach Branko Stanković was asked to resign during every encounter by the fans. Stanković got full support from the club's management. Stanković declared the two players Abdülkerim Durmaz and Cem Pamiroğlu as troublemakers and saboteurs of his leadership style and suspended both. While Durmaz was reconciled with Stanković, there was no reconciliation with Pamiroğlu. Pamiroğlu has already negotiated with several clubs in the Süper Lig .

At the end of November 1986 Pamiroğlu left Fenerbahçe after ten years and moved to Sarıyer SK within the league . Here he immediately established himself as a leading player and ensured that his club became the fourth strongest team from Istanbul after the big three Istanbul clubs Fenerbahçe , Beşiktaş and Galatasaray . They were almost always in the top half of the table and even reached fourth place in the table in the 1988/89 season, repeating the best placement in the club's history from the 1985/86 season . He played for this club until the summer of 1990 and then declared the end of his active football career. Pamiroğlu said goodbye on August 16, 1980 with a farewell game in which Fenerbahçe Istanbul and Sarıyer SK met, from the football stage.

National team

Pamiroğlu played the first time for the Turkish national teams for the Turkish U-18 national team on February 12, 1975 in a friendly meeting against the Romanian U-18 national team. From then on he was part of the regular squad of the Turkish U-18s for the next two and a half years. With this he also took part in the U-18 European Football Championship in Hungary in 1976 , but was eliminated with his team in the group phase from the tournament.

He then played six times for the Turkish U-21 national team . With this team he took part in the Balkan Cup in 1977 , but could not achieve a placement in the top three.

He made his international debut for the Turkish national team on April 6, 1977 during a friendly meeting against the Finnish national team . From then on he was one of the regularly used players for a decade. He took with the national team in the qualifiers for the European Championship in 1980 , qualifying for the 1982 World Cup , qualifying for the European Championship in 1984 and the qualification for the 1986 World Cup in part, but managed to qualify his team for any of the tournaments.

He made his last international match on November 14, 1984 during a 1986 World Cup qualifying match against the English national team . In this game, Turkey lost 8-0 due to its desperate performance in the domestic Inönü Stadium and suffered one of the worst defeats in the association's history. Pamiroğlu, as one of the defense chiefs, was declared to be the main culprit behind the defeat. Nevertheless, he was nominated for a European Championship 1988 qualifying game against England for the Turkish national team, but was on the bench in this encounter.

Coaching career

Two years after the end of his playing career, he decided to pursue a career as a coach. His first job was in the 1992–1993 season as a youth coach in the youth department of Fenerbahçe Istanbul . He was then appointed assistant coach in the summer and subsequently assisted the head coach Holger Osieck .

In the spring of 1996 he took over as the first head coach of the second division Orduspor and looked after it until the end of the season. He then took over together with Rıza Çalımbay as the head coach of the Turkish U-21 national team and stayed in this position for two years.

For the summer of 1998 he coached the then second division Ağrıspor and a year later the second division Çaykur Rizespor . Later he coached the clubs Şekerspor and Göztepe Izmir .

In 2005 he took over the Turkish U-19 national team. With this he took part in the U-19 European Football Championship in 2006 and was eliminated in the group phase. Because there were such highly regarded players as Serdar Özkan , Arda Turan , Aydın Yılmaz and Mehmet Güven in the team , Pamiroğlu was criticized for the disappointing performance. A short time later, he left this post.

In spring 2008 Pamiroğlu took over the then third division club Çanakkale Dardanelspor and looked after it until the end of the season.
