Roberto Ciulli
Roberto Ciulli (born April 1, 1934 in Milan ) is an Italian theater director who heads the Theater an der Ruhr in Mülheim an der Ruhr .
Life
Ciulli studied philosophy and founded the Il Globo theater in Milan at the age of 26 . He received his doctorate in philosophy and went to Germany in 1965 , where he initially worked as a factory worker and truck driver. He began his theater work in Germany in Göttingen , where he first worked as an assistant director , then as a director. Further stations were Berlin , Düsseldorf and Cologne . From 1972 to 1979 he was acting director at the Schauspiel Köln .
In Cologne he worked with the dramaturge Helmut Schäfer . Both felt restricted in their work by the city theater system and founded the independent “Theater an der Ruhr” in Mülheim an der Ruhr in 1980. The first premiere was in 1981 by Frank Wedekind's Lulu . They received the former Kurhaus Solbad Raffelberg as a venue from the city of Mülheim and turned it into a theater.
Ciulli, together with Schäfer and the set designer Gralf-Edzard Habben, is still the director of the theater today and stages at least one play every year, which then goes on tour. The richly pictorial productions by Roberto Ciulli have made the Theater an der Ruhr one of the most renowned houses in Germany over the years. Numerous tours abroad made the theater known beyond the borders of Europe .
