The 27 East German tour took place from July 26 until 1. July 1979 instead. It led over 937.5 km with seven stages. Bernd Drogan was able to win this tour for the third time in a row .

Attendees

83 drivers from six countries took part in the 27th tour. In addition to the drivers from the GDR, guests from Poland , Bulgaria , the ČSSR , the Netherlands and the Soviet Union could be welcomed.
