The 1st destination Eurovision was the French preliminary decision for the Eurovision Song Contest 2018 in Lisbon (Portugal). The competition consisted of two semi-finals on January 13th and 20th, 2018 and the final on January 27th, 2018. Madame Monsieur won the final with the title Mercy and will represent France in Lisbon.

concept

format

For the first time since 2014 , there will be a national preliminary decision in France to determine the French contribution to the ESC in 2018. In total there will be two pre-shot semi-finals and a final, which will take place live. The two semi-finals will be shot on January 8th and 9th, 2018. A total of 18 participants will take part in the preliminary round. Nine participants take part in each semi-final. Four participants per semi-final will then reach the final. In the two semifinals, 50% of the votes are taken by an international jury vote and 50% by a French jury vote. Eight participants should then appear in the final. The winner of the preliminary decision should then be determined 50% by international jury voting and 50% by televoting.

Juries

French jury

The French jury consists of three well-known French singers. You are only entitled to vote in the two semi-finals:

International jury

The international jury consists of the following Head of Delegations :

These three jury members are entitled to vote in the semi-finals. In the final, seven more Head of Delegations or interpreters will be part of the international jury. These come from Armenia, Bulgaria, Finland, Iceland, Israel, Russia and Switzerland.

Moderation

On October 11, 2017, France 2 announced that the well-known Canadian singer Garou will moderate the preliminary round.

Choice of contribution

From June 21, 2017 to December 2017, entries could be submitted to France 2. At least 70% of the text of a song had to contain French . On December 11, 2017, France 2 announced at a press conference that it had received 1,500 contributions. The 18 contributions that take part in the broadcast at the end were selected by a 14-member jury.

Attendees

From December 29, 2017 to December 30, 2017, France 2 presented a participant in the French preliminary round on Facebook and Twitter every day. Since December 31, 2017, two performers have been presented per day.
