Tournament commentary

For the first time since 2012, multiple winner Orie Hida from Japan took part in a world championship. She was, like the Dutch Therese Klompenhouwer, the most promising candidate for the title. As expected, both survived the qualifying round. In the quarterfinals, however, Klompenhouwer had to admit defeat to the Danish Marianne Mortensen. Hida prevailed against Korean Lee Mee-rae in the final and earned her fourth gold medal.
