EBSA European Snooker Championship 2002
The 2002 EBSA European Snooker Championship was the eleventh edition of the continental championship of the European Snooker Association . It took place for the first time in Poland in Kalisz .
European champion was the Welsh David John with a 7-2 victory in the final against David McLellan . John was eliminated in the previous two years in the quarter-finals and the last sixteen. In 2003 he appeared again and was the first player to defend his title. For the Scottish ex-professional McLellan it was the only European Championship participation.
Lasse Münstermann from Germany reached the main round for the second time in his fourth participation and was eliminated again in the round of 16.
mode
56 players took part in the group stage. They competed in eight groups with seven players each in round robin mode . The top two in each group qualified for the final round, which was played out in the knockout system .
