The EBSA Snooker European Championship 1997 was the sixth edition of the European Billiards and Snooker Association hosted European Championship in Snooker . It took place from July 19 to 29, 1997 in Biarritz , France .
The Finn Robin Hull became European champion with a 7-3 victory in the final against the Icelandic Kristján Helgason .

The 48 participants were initially divided into eight groups in which they competed against each other in round robin mode . The top two in each group qualified for the final round, which was played out in the knockout system .
