The EBSA Snooker European Championship 1996 was the fifth edition of the European Billiards and Snooker Association hosted European Championship in Snooker . It took place from May 10th to 16th, 1996 in the Matchroom Schijnpoort in Antwerp .
European champion was the Scot Graham Horne with an 8: 5 win in the final against the Icelandic Kristján Helgason .

The 49 participants were initially divided into eight groups in which they competed against each other in round robin mode . The top two in each group qualified for the final round, which was played out in the knockout system .
