European Museum of the Year
The European Museums Forum (EMF), founded in 1977 , annually awards a museum as European Museum of the Year . The prize was under the patronage of Queen Fabiola of Belgium and is usually awarded in cooperation with the Museum Prize of the Council of Europe .
The prize is awarded to either a newly opened museum or a museum with a recently completely modernized exhibition. The jury pays particular attention to imaginative interpretation and presentation, equipment, finances, social responsibility, educational work, marketing and management. The award-winning museum receives for one year the sculpture The Egg by Henry Moore on loan.
From the series of applications, the award committee publishes a list of nominated applicants, from among which, in addition to the winner of the European Museum of the Year Award (EMYA), the Micheletti Prize , which is oriented towards technical history, the Council of Europe Prize and other special commendations are selected. Since 2010 the Trustees of the European Museum Forum have been donating the Kenneth Hudson Award, the first winner of which is the Museum for Contraception and Abortion in Vienna. In 2011 the award was given to the Museum of Broken Relationships in Zagreb .
