Eugene C. Keyes

Eugene C. Keyes (born August 23, 1900 in Dearborn , Michigan , †  1963 ) was an American politician . Between 1943 and 1945 and again from 1947 to 1949 he was lieutenant governor of the state of Michigan.

Career

In 1921, Eugene Keyes graduated from the Royal College of Dental Surgeons with a degree in dentistry. He then studied general medicine until 1930 at Wayne State University . In 1932 he founded the Keyes Diagnostic Clinic in Dearborn. He also studied law at the Detroit College of Law . After his admission as a lawyer, he also worked in this profession. Politically, he joined the Republican Party . He served on Dearborn City Councils and Wayne County Councils . In 1940, 1944 and 1948 he ran unsuccessfully for the office of lieutenant governor of his state.

In between he was successful with the same candidacy in 1942 and 1946. Thus he was from 1943 to 1945 and between 1947 and 1949 Deputy Governors Harry Kelly and Kim Sigler . He also acted as chairman of the state senate . In 1950 he failed in his party's gubernatorial election. Two years later he also suffered a loss in the primary in his candidacy for the US Senate . He died in 1963; neither his exact date of death nor his place of death are known.
