Henry H. Holt
Henry Hobart Holt (born March 27, 1831 in Camden , Oneida County , New York , † August 23, 1898 in Muskegon , Michigan ) was an American politician . Between 1873 and 1877 he was lieutenant governor of the state of Michigan.
Career
Henry Holt received an academic education. After a subsequent law degree at Union Law College in Ohio and his admission as a lawyer in 1857, he began to work in Muskegon in this profession from 1858. There he held several local offices. He also served as a district attorney in Muskegon County for four years . Politically, he joined the Republican Party . In 1867 and from 1869 to 1872 he was a member of the Michigan House of Representatives . He was chairman of the Committee on Ways and Means . In 1867 he took part as a delegate at a constitutional convention of his state.
In 1872, Holt was elected Lieutenant Governor of Michigan, alongside John J. Bagley . He held this office between 1873 and 1877. He was Deputy Governor and Chairman of the State Senate . After serving as Lieutenant Governor, he returned to practice as a lawyer. In the meantime he toured Europe and the Middle East. In 1887 he wrote a historical treatise on the city of Muskegon. He died on August 23, 1898.
