James H. Brickley

James H. Brickley (born November 15, 1928 in Flint , Michigan , †  September 28, 2001 in Detroit , Michigan) was an American lawyer and politician . Between 1971 and 1975 and again from 1979 to 1983 he was lieutenant governor of the state of Michigan.

Career

After studying law at the University of Detroit and New York University and being admitted to the bar, James Brickley began working in this profession. Between 1955 and 1959 he worked as an agent for the FBI . Politically, he became a member of the Republican Party . In 1966 he applied unsuccessfully for the post of judge at the Michigan Court of Appeals . In 1969 and 1970 he was a federal attorney for the eastern district of Michigan.

In 1970, Brickley was elected Lieutenant Governor of Michigan alongside William Milliken . He held this office between 1971 and 1975. He was Deputy Governor and Chairman of the State Senate . He then served as President of Eastern Michigan University from 1975 to 1978 . From 1979 to 1983 he was again lieutenant governor of his state under Governor Milliken. In 1982 he failed in his party's gubernatorial election.

From 1983 to 1999, Brickley served as a judge on the Michigan Supreme Court . He presided over this court in 1995 and 1996. He died in Detroit on September 28, 2001.
