Origen D. Richardson

Origen Drew Richardson (born July 20, 1795 in Woodstock , Vermont , †  November 29, 1876 in Omaha , Nebraska ) was an American politician . Between 1842 and 1846 he served as lieutenant governor of the state of Michigan .

Career

After studying law and being admitted to the bar, Origen Richardson worked in this profession until 1826 in Vermont. During the British-American War of 1812 he served in the US Army . In 1826 he moved to Pontiac , Michigan , where he also practiced as a lawyer. Between 1830 and 1836 he was a prosecutor in Oakland County there . At the same time he embarked on a political career as a democrat . From 1835 to 1836 and again in 1841 he was a member of the Michigan House of Representatives.

In 1841, Richardson was elected Lieutenant Governor of Michigan alongside John S. Barry . He held this office between 1842 and 1846. He was Deputy Governor and Chairman of the State Senate . After his time as lieutenant governor, he was again active as a lawyer in Pontiac until 1854. In the fall of that year, he moved to Omaha, Nebraska Territory . There he became a member of the territorial legislature. Richardson was involved in drafting the laws of the future state of Nebraska. He died on November 29, 1876 in Omaha, where he was buried.
