Clarence A. Reid

Clarence A. Reid (born December 11, 1892 in Salt Creek , Pickaway County , Ohio , †  1978 ) was an American politician . Between 1953 and 1955 he was lieutenant governor of the state of Michigan .

Career

During World War I served Clarence Reid in the United States Army . After studying law at the University of Michigan and being admitted to the bar in 1920, he began working in this profession in Michigan. At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Republican Party . In 1932 he ran unsuccessfully in his party's primary election for a seat in the US House of Representatives ; in 1934, 1938, and 1948 he ran unsuccessfully for a seat in the Michigan Senate . He sat on this body from 1941 to 1948 and again from 1951 to 1952.

1952 Reid was elected Lieutenant Governor of Michigan alongside G. Mennen Williams . He held this office between 1953 and 1955. He was Deputy Governor and Chairman of the State Senate. In 1954 it was not confirmed. In the elections of 1956, 1960 and 1962 he unsuccessfully sought his return to the office of lieutenant governor. Reid was a member of the Freemasons and the American Legion veterans' organization, as well as the American Bar Association. He died in 1978.
