Moreau S. Crosby

Moreau S. Crosby (born December 2, 1839 in Manchester , Ontario County , New York , †  September 12, 1893 in Boston , Massachusetts ) was an American politician . Between 1881 and 1885 he was lieutenant governor of the state of Michigan .

Career

In 1857, Moreau Crosby came to Grand Rapids , Michigan. He then studied at the University of Rochester in New York until 1863 . He then returned to Michigan, where he worked in real estate and insurance. At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Republican Party . He served on the Grand Rapids City School Board and served as the curator of Kalamazoo College . He also led some Christian associations. He was also a member of the State Welfare Committee.

Crosby served in the Michigan Senate in 1873 and 1874 . In 1880 he was elected lieutenant governor of his state alongside David Jerome . He held this office after re-election between 1881 and 1885. He was Deputy Governor and Chairman of the State Senate. From 1883 he served under the new governor Josiah Begole . In 1888 he was a substitute delegate to the Republican National Convention , where Benjamin Harrison was nominated as a presidential candidate. He died in Boston on September 12, 1893.
