James Damman

James Joseph Damman (born January 16, 1933 in Grosse Pointe Park , Wayne County , Michigan , †  February 23, 2011 in Austin , Texas ) was an American politician . Between 1975 and 1979 he was lieutenant governor of the state of Michigan.

Career

James Damman initially worked for the Damman Hardware Retail Chain , which was founded by his father , a company chain active in the hardware business. In 1954 he graduated from the University of Detroit , where he studied economics. Between 1955 and 1957 he served in the US Army . He then embarked on a political career as a member of the Republican Party . He was elected to the Troy Town Council and was a member of the Michigan House of Representatives from 1971 to 1974 .

In 1974, Damman was elected lieutenant governor of Michigan alongside William Milliken . He held this office between 1975 and 1979. He was Deputy Governor and Chairman of the State Senate . After serving as Lieutenant Governor, he worked in the real estate industry. He later moved to Austin, where he founded Quantum Digital Incorporated , which operates in the technology sector. He died in Austin on February 23, 2011.
