Vernon J. Brown

Vernon Jacobs Brown (born March 20, 1874 in Vevay , Ingham County , Michigan , †  April 8, 1964 in Webberville , Michigan) was an American politician . Between 1945 and 1947 he was lieutenant governor of the state of Michigan.

Career

Vernon Brown worked first in agriculture and then in retail. Eventually he got into the newspaper business and became the publisher of the Ingham County News newspaper . At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Republican Party . In 1918 he was elected as a county clerk to the county council of his homeland. Between 1929 and 1938 he was a member of the Michigan House of Representatives ; from 1939 to 1944 he was State Auditor General .

In 1944 Brown was elected Lieutenant Governor of Michigan alongside Harry Kelly . He held this office between 1945 and 1947. He was Deputy Governor and Chairman of the State Senate . In 1946 he ran unsuccessfully in the gubernatorial election of his party. He died in Webberville on April 8, 1964, at the age of 90.
