Leo J. Nowicki

Leo J. Nowicki (born February 17, 1904 in Giecz , Posen Province , Prussia , †  September 15, 1990 ) was an American politician . Between 1937 and 1939 he was lieutenant governor of the state of Michigan .

Career

In 1906, Leo Nowicki and his parents came to the United States from their home, which is now part of Poland , where the family settled in Michigan. In 1925 he graduated from the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor , where he was trained as a civil engineer. He then worked in this industry. Politically, he became a member of the Democratic Party . Between 1933 and 1936 he was Drain Commissioner in Wayne County .

In 1936 Nowicki was elected Lieutenant Governor of Michigan alongside Frank Murphy . He held this office between 1937 and 1939. He was Deputy Governor and Chairman of the State Senate . In 1938 he was not re-elected. After his time as Lieutenant Governor, he was no longer politically active. He died on 15 September 1990 and was in Loxahatchee ( Florida buried).
