Richard "Dick" Posthumus (born July 19, 1950 in Alto , Kent County , Michigan ) is an American politician . Between 1999 and 2003 he was lieutenant governor of the state of Michigan.

Career

Dick Posthumus grew up on a farm and then studied agriculture at Michigan State University, among other things. In this branch he also worked as a farmer. Politically, he joined the Republican Party . In 1972 and 2000 he took part as a delegate at the Republican National Conventions , at which Richard Nixon and George W. Bush were nominated as presidential candidates. Between 1983 and 1998 he was a member of the Michigan Senate . Since 1991 he has headed the Republican parliamentary group there.

In 1998, Posthumus was elected Lieutenant Governor of Michigan alongside John Engler . He held this office between 1999 and 2003. He was Deputy Governor and Chairman of the State Senate. In 2002 he ran unsuccessfully for governor. In 2006 he became CEO of Compactico . Since 2010 he has also acted as an advisor to the new Governor Rick Snyder . He has four grown children with his wife Pam, who died in 2010.
