Connie Binsfeld

Connie Berube Binsfeld (born April 18, 1924 in Munising , Michigan , †  January 12, 2014 in Glen Lake , Michigan) was an American politician . Between 1991 and 1999 she was Lieutenant Governor of the State of Michigan.

Career

Connie Berube, so her maiden name, grew up during the Great Depression and the Great Depression in the early 1930s on. She attended the public schools in her home country and Siena Heights College . It was then that she met her future husband, John Binsfeld, who was a soldier at the time. After the end of his military service, the couple married. Connie Binsfeld embarked on a political career as a member of the Republican Party . She was elected to the Leelanau County County Council three times . Between 1975 and 1982 she was a member of the Michigan House of Representatives ; from 1983 to 1990 she was a member of the State Senate . In August 1988 she took part as a delegate at the Republican National Convention in New Orleans , where George Bush was nominated as a presidential candidate.

In 1990, Binsfeld was elected Lieutenant Governor of Michigan alongside John Engler . She held this office between 1991 and 1999. She was Deputy Governor and Chair of the State Senate. Among other things, she campaigned for the children of her state and founded the Binsfeld Children's Commission . In 1998 she decided not to run again. She died in Glen Lake on January 12, 2014 at the age of 89.
