Alexander Maitland

Alexander Maitland (born June 20, 1844 in Kilmarnock , Scotland , †  June 12, 1925 ) was an American politician . Between 1903 and 1907 he was lieutenant governor of the state of Michigan .

Career

In 1856, Alexander Maitland came with his parents to Ontario in the Province of Canada , where the family worked in agriculture. From 1864 he lived in Negaunee in the US state of Michigan. He attended the public schools in his respective homeland. In Michigan he was initially employed by the Chicago and North Western Railway . He later worked in the mining industry. He became a manager or head of several companies in this branch. Politically, he joined the Republican Party . He worked for the county government and became mayor of Negaunee. Between 1897 and 1900 he was a member of the Michigan Senate .

In 1902 Maitland was elected lieutenant governor of Michigan alongside Aaron T. Bliss . He held this office after a re-election between 1903 and 1907. He was Deputy Governor and Chairman of the State Senate. From 1905 he served under the new governor Fred M. Warner . He died on June 12, 1925, according to other sources on January 1, 1929.
