John W. Connolly

John W. Connolly (born July 4, 1911 in Detroit , Michigan , †  July 11, 1981 there ) was an American politician . Between 1949 and 1951 he was lieutenant governor of the state of Michigan.

Career

After studying law at Georgetown University and being admitted to the bar in 1937, John Connolly began working in Michigan in 1938. During World War II , he served in the United States Navy from 1942 to 1946 . He then continued his practice as a lawyer. At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Democratic Party .

In 1948 Connolly was elected Lieutenant Governor of Michigan alongside G. Mennen Williams . He held this office between 1949 and 1951. He was Deputy Governor and Chairman of the State Senate . In 1950 it was not confirmed. Two years later he failed when trying to be re-elected to this office. In 1964 and 1966 he unsuccessfully applied for the post of district judge. John Connolly was a member of several veterans' organizations. He died on July 11, 1981 in Detroit.
