The FIFA Club World Cup 2000 ( Engl. : FIFA Club World Championship 2000 ) was the first to host a global football competition for club teams and took place from 5 to 14 January Brazil.
Despite a participation bonus of 2.5 million US dollars and an additional 1.5 to 3.5 million US dollars for the first three places, the top international clubs for a long time defended themselves against participation and the associated additional burden in the already very tight international one Appointment calendar.

There were a total of eight teams from the six continental zones of FIFA Asia , Africa , CONCACAF , South America , Europe and Oceania at the start, with Europe and South America each having two representatives who competed against each other in a round-robin tournament with two groups of four teams. The group runners-up qualified for the game for third place and the group winners for the final.
