location

The village is located in the northwest of the municipality of Metnitz, in the Metnitz Mountains , in the valley of the Felfernigbach. The valley is easiest to reach from the west from Styria; From the competent Carinthian capital Metnitz, this corresponds to a journey of around 25 kilometers.

The northern neighboring valley Schachmannthal - as far as it belongs to Carinthia - is now also counted as part of the locality , which in the first censuses was still listed as part of the locality Oberalpe , which is otherwise on the other side of the Hirschstein .

history

The scattered settlement was initially run as part of the village of Flattnitz . When the core of the village of Flattnitz was ceded in 1973 by the municipality of Metnitz to the then newly established municipality of Weitensfeld-Flattnitz (Flattnitz is now part of the municipality of Glödnitz ), Felfernigthal remained with Metnitz and is run as a separate village.

Due to its remote location, the Rotte Felfernigthal was supplied from the Stadl an der Mur post office at the beginning of the 20th century , with the exception of the summer when a post office was set up in Flattnitz.
