The Dino 308 GT 4 is a 2 + 2-seater sports car that was built by Ferrari from 1974 to 1980 . Its three-liter eight-cylinder engine with 188 kW (255 hp) was originally a development from the Ferrari racing department .

Model history

The Dino 308 GT4 was the first Ferrari to be fitted with an eight-cylinder unit as standard; previously Ferrari had only installed six and twelve-cylinder engines. The robust, easy-revving motor was used in various other Ferraris for many years afterwards, also in slightly modified form - e.g. B. in the 308 series (including Mondial in over 15,000 vehicles).

A special feature of the Dino 308 GT 4 is that it, like its predecessor, the Dino 246 , bears the brand name Dino and not the usual Ferrari logo. Enzo Ferrari let the small Ferrari models run under the name Dino for a few years in memory of his late son Alfredo "Dino" Ferrari . It was not until May 1976 that the brand name Dino was replaced by Ferrari on the 308 GT 4 model. A total of 2826 units of the Dino 308 GT 4 were built in the six years of construction, 1332 units of the pure Dino 308 GT 4 and 1446 units of the Ferrari Dino 308 GT 4 (+ 840 units of the 208 GT 4 model, which has been throttled to 125 kW (170 PS) ). Younger vehicles of the 308 Dino series recently had a little less power than the original 188 kW (255 PS) - especially USA export models.

For once, the body of the Dino was not designed by Pininfarina , but by Bertone .

Production dissemination

The car was first presented in the autumn of 1973 at the international motor show in Paris. The series production did not start until spring 1974. Probably the oldest, fully preserved Dino 308 GT 4 (serial number 07880 with the production date February 26th 1974 certified by Ferrari) is currently in Germany in the Lake Constance district in German private ownership.

In the same year, the so-called NART-Dino was also built, a single model for the Le Mans race that was bred to over 220 kW (300 PS) . A Bertone design study called Rainbow was also presented in 1976 .

Development on the classic market

As with all Ferraris of the 1970s, the prices of the Dino 308 GT 4 are slowly rising. Not so long ago called an entry-level Ferrari, today higher prices are paid for very good specimens than for 308 GTB / GTS / i / QV and 328 GTB / GTS (according to the specialist magazine Oldtimermarkt Sonderheft 53 - 2014 up to 75,000 euros). American versions with thick rubber bumpers and versions with air conditioning are less in demand, the latter due to the susceptibility to breakdowns.
