Friedrich Hausmann (historian)
Friedrich Hausmann (born December 2, 1917 in Fröllersdorf , South Moravia , † July 10, 2009 in Graz ) was an Austrian medieval historian at the Karl-Franzens University of Graz.
Life
Friedrich Hausmann studied at the University of Vienna from 1935 to 1939 . In 1936, he was in the Corps Symposium recipiert . From 1941 he served in the Navy and took part in the Atlantic Battle on U 857 and U 3030 . After completing his habilitation in Vienna in 1956, he worked for several years at the Army History Museum . In 1964 he was appointed to the Karl Franzens University in Graz . For 24 years he was full professor for history of the Middle Ages and historical auxiliary sciences . 1968/69 and 1975–1977 he held the office of dean of the former Philosophical Faculty. For the academic years 1979/80 and 1980/81 he was elected rector of the Karl-Franzens University.
Hausmann's main research areas were the edition of King Conrad III's documents. as part of the Diplomata series of the Monumenta Germaniae Historica , the revision and continuation of the Styrian document book on behalf of the Historical State Commission for Styria and the historical auxiliary sciences. The research institute for historical basic sciences at Karl-Franzens-Universität, which he founded in 1975 and headed until his retirement , was a recognized center for the use of electronic data processing in these disciplines in the 1980s and 1990s.
Hausmann had been a member of the Constance Working Group for Medieval History since 1956 . Since 1967 he has been a member of the State Historical Commission for Styria . In 1973 the Austrian Academy of Sciences (ÖAW) elected him a corresponding member and he became a member of the commission for the Vienna Diplomata edition of the Monumenta Germaniae Historica. In 1977 Hausmann became a corresponding member of the central management of the Monumenta Germaniae Historica in Munich. Since 1978 he has been a leading member of the Academic Council of the Humboldt Society for Science, Art and Education in Mannheim.
Honors
The Theresian Military Academy awarded him the gold academy ring in 1962 for the establishment of the museum. In 1987 he received the Great Gold Medal of Honor from the State of Styria . The Corps Hansea Vienna awarded him the ribbon in 1953. He put it down in the 1970s. Symposion made him an honorary senior in 1956 and awarded him the gold corps ring in 1977.
