Friedrich von Podewils (born July 13, 1804 in Schönkirch , † June 23, 1863 in Bayreuth ) was a German civil servant in Bavaria, politician and member of the Frankfurt National Assembly .

Life

Friedrich von Podewils came from the Podewils family . He was born as the son of the professional officer Franz Friedrich Jakob von Podewils (1779–1842) and his wife Sophie geb. von Reitzenstein (1786–1814). After graduating from the Wilhelmsgymnasium in Munich (1824), he studied law in Landshut and Munich from 1824 to 1829 . In 1824 he became a member of the Corps Palatia .

In 1829 he entered the Bavarian judicial service as a court trainee in Munich. Between 1831 and 1834 he was a councilor accessist to the government for Upper Bavaria in the Chamber of the Interior. At times he also worked for the Bavarian Ministry of the Interior. Between 1834 and 1836 he was the state commissioner actuary in Landau an der Isar . Then he was assessor in the government in Bayreuth . A short time later, he moved to the Ministry of the Interior as a secret secretary. Between 1837 and 1845 he was chairman of the Immenstadt regional court . After that he was a member of the government in Regensburg until 1850 . In 1849 he succeeded Joseph Pözl as a Member of Parliament for Amberg in the Frankfurt National Assembly . He was non-attached and voted with the Right Center. In 1850 he became government director in Würzburg . From 1858 until his death in 1863 he was the district president in Upper Franconia .

In 1835 he married Katharine Bourgin, with whom he had 7 children.

In Amberg, Podewilsstrasse is named after him.

His brother Philipp von Podewils (1809–1885) was the inventor of the Podewils rifle .
