The 1991/92 season of the Oberliga was the 18th season of the Oberliga as the third highest division in football in Germany after the introduction of the double-track - later single-track - 2nd Bundesliga for the 1974/75 season.
Changes
Due to the German reunification , the Oberliga Nordost was held for the first time this season. It dissolved the Oberliga Berlin and replaced some of the clubs from the Oberliga Berlin, as well as clubs from the first-class GDR Oberliga and the second-class NOFV league .

In the four rounds of promotion, SC Fortuna Köln , Wuppertaler SV , VfL Wolfsburg and SpVgg Unterhaching were promoted to the 2nd Bundesliga as group winners .
