qualification

After a successful European football championship in 1984 with reaching the semi-finals, Denmark was able to qualify for a football world championship for the first time .

Denmark qualified as group first in Group 6 before the Soviet Union , which also qualified. In the qualifying game Ireland against Denmark on November 13, 1985 in Dublin, Søren Lerby was substituted in the 59th minute when the score was 1: 3 for Denmark and flew back to Germany, where he was on a DFB- Cup match of his club Bayern Munich against VfL Bochum .
