Georg Agricola († May 16, 1584 , buried in Seckau ) was Georg III. Bishop of Lavant and as Georg IV. Bishop of Seckau .

Life

Georg Agricola studied in Ingolstadt and, during the wars of religion, also in France . He then became provost of St. Bartholomä and St. Virgil in Friesach , archdeacon of Lower Carinthia and consistorial councilor of Salzburg . At the Salzburg Provincial Synod of 1569 he was Synod Director.

In 1570, the Archbishop of Salzburg, Johann Jakob von Kuen-Belasy, appointed him Bishop of Lavant. On July 15, 1572, Pope Gregory XIII praised him . for re-catholicization in his diocese.

On October 25, 1572, the Archbishop transferred Agricola to Seckau, probably because of Agricola's economic efficiency and because the diocese of Seckau was heavily in debt. He was only to continue to administer the diocese of Lavant for two years, but this office remained with him until his death. In Seckau Agricola was able to reduce the debt by a tenth.

Nuncio Bartolomeo Portia, on the other hand, denied Agricola education and accused him of stinginess and illegal children. Agricola was often reprimanded for the administration of two dioceses in particular.

Agricola died on May 16, 1584 and was buried in Seckau Cathedral.
