Baritone Giovanni Meoni

Giovanni Meoni (* 1964 in Genzano di Roma ) is an Italian opera singer ( baritone ).

biography

Meoni began studying singing at the Conservatorio di Santa Cecilia in Rome . He later studied with M ° Leodino Ferri (student of Arturo Melocchi), whose teaching was of crucial importance for his vocal training. In 1991 Meoni made his debut in La Bohème (Marcello) at the Teatro Flavio Vespasiano ( Rieti ). Between 1991 and 1993 he won the first prizes in national and international competitions: Battistini 1991, Ricciarelli 1992, Basiola 1993 (first prize and best baritone).

Meoni, an important interpreter of the Italian operatic tradition, distinguished himself in the first years of his career as a specialist in the belcantor repertoire ( Bellini , Donizetti ) and consequently devoted himself to the operas of Verdi . Ultimately, this turned out to be Meoni's optimal and most natural focus: here the singer achieves his maximum expressiveness, especially in the roles of the noble baritone ("baritono nobile"), characterized by the finest phrasing and a significant scenic presence.
