The Grant County is a county in the state of New Mexico to the United States . The county seat is Silver City . 29,514 residents lived here in 2010. It is named after the President Ulysses S. Grant .

With an area of 10,276 square kilometers, the county is about half the size of Hesse . Of these, 4 square kilometers (0.04 percent) are water areas. The county is bordered by the following other counties: Catron County , Sierra County , Luna County , Hidalgo County, and Greenlee County .

One place has the status of a National Historic Landmark , the Fort Bayard Historic District . A total of 47 buildings and sites in the county are registered on the National Register of Historic Places (as of February 17, 2018).

The county had a population of 31,002 as of the 2000 census . There were 12,146 households and 8,514 families. The population density was 3 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 75.67% White, 0.52% African American, 1.35% Native American, 0.29% Asian, 0.03% Pacific Islander, and 19.02% other races Groups; 3.11% were from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race was 48.79% of the population.
Of the 12,146 households, 31.30% had children and young people under the age of 18 living with them. 52.70% were married couples living together, 12.90% were single mothers. 29.90% were not families. 25.70% are single households and 10.70% have someone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.50 and the average family size was 3.01.
For the entire county, the population was composed of 26.20% residents under 18 years of age, 8.50% between 18 and 24 years of age, 23.70% between 25 and 44 years of age, 25.10% between 45 and 64 years of age 16.50% were 65 years of age or over. The median age was 39 years. For every 100 females there were 95.10 males, and for every 100 females aged 18 and over there were 91.30 males.
The median income for a household in the county is $ 29,134 , and the median income for a family is $ 34,231. Males had a median income of $ 31,126 versus $ 19,627 for females.
