The Hansa-Gymnasium is a four-class high school in the Hamburg district of Bergedorf .

history

The Hansa-Gymnasium was founded on April 2, 1883 under the name "Higher Citizens School" in the street Neuer Weg 21 in Bergedorf. It bore this name until the end of 1883. Then the name was changed to "Hansa-Schule" (or "Hansa-Gymnasium").

  • On April 15, 1886, it moved to Wentorfer Straße 13, also in Bergedorf.
  • From 1907 the building at Am Bult 10 was also used, as there was not enough space at Wentorfer Straße 13.
  • On June 13, 1914, the school moved into its current domicile on Hermann-Distel-Straße, which was built from 1912 to 1914 according to the plans of the Hamburg architect Fritz Schumacher .
  • In 1969 one wing of the building that housed the gymnasium and the auditorium above it was destroyed by arson.
It was decided not to build a new auditorium, but a class wing, which was urgently needed due to a lack of space. In 1974 this new building, which contains classrooms for the 5th grade and rooms for the biology, visual arts, music and performing arts departments, was built.
  • In 1987, a new gymnasium was built on the site of the old assembly hall, which, carpeted and equipped with chairs, serves as a replacement for the missing assembly hall.
  • In 2006, another floor was added to the existing new building, which now contains specialist rooms for geography and history. During this process, a new cafeteria and an upper level study room were built in the basement of the new building.
  • Simultaneously with the increase, a new auditorium was built between the old and the new building and completed in 2007.
  • In 2009 the facade and the roof of the old building (see photo on the right) were renewed.
  • From 2011 many classrooms were equipped with interactive whiteboards . In addition, the IServ school server was integrated into the existing network in 2012 .
  • In 2013 the school yard was redesigned, financed by donations.

profile

At the Hansa-Gymnasium, students are particularly encouraged in the areas of languages, mathematics, computer science and natural sciences (MINT), and music and music theater. Upon entering the 5th grade, the students can choose between a MINT class, an English-bilingual or a modern-language class - these focal points can be reinforced in the intermediate level through elective courses.

Language sequence

After giving up the option to choose Latin as the first foreign language (parallel to English), since the school year 2014/15 all Hansa students have started with English as their first foreign language - in the bilingual classes at a higher level. Latin or French follow as a second foreign language in the 6th grade. In the 8th grade there is the option of choosing Spanish as a third foreign language.

IB Diploma Programs

Since the 2010/2011 school year, the Hansa-Gymnasium has been offering the International Baccalaureate of the International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO) as an international qualification. In this way, the bilingual offer of the Hansa-Gymnasium is also continued in the upper level.

MINT EC school

The Hansa-Gymnasium was the first school in Hamburg to be included in the nationwide network of MINT-EC schools. Since the 2014/2015 school year, pupils aged 5 and above have been able to experience and understand everything to do with our nature. To do this, they register for the MINT class.

In addition to mathematics, a focus area of the Hansa-Gymnasium is also the promotion of gifted students and the promotion of experimental work and scientific research. Schoolchildren also work on Jugend forscht projects and do internships with cooperation partners or at the Technical University of Harburg . Students at the Hansa-Gymnasium regularly take part in the Mathematics Olympiad , the Jugend forscht competition and the Chemistry Olympiad .

Choir school

At the Hansa-Gymnasium, choir work is at the center of the musical events.

  • Large choir and extra choir of the 5th grade,
  • Children's choir "Hansa Vokal" (grades 6 - 8) and
  • Bergedorfer Girls Choir Hamburg (Grades 6-12)
  • Upper school choir (grades 9–12), cross-school with students from the Luisen-Gymnasium
  • Total Vokal (project ensemble with students and alumni)

Every year in mid-December there is a Christmas concert in the St. Severini Church in Kirchwerder , as well as the “Springtime” choir festival in May. All choirs perform at both events, with the exception of the large 5th grade choir. Every year in early summer, the great 5th grade choir sings seafaring songs on the Rickmer Rickmers in the Port of Hamburg.

Upper school

As part of the upper profile level, the Hansa-Gymnasium offers the following branches:

  • Show your colors: Art meets politics (Art-PGW-Informatik)
  • International Baccalaureate (Biology-History / Geography-Theory of Knowledge)
