Only in 1405 was the Mordensch mentioned in a document . The next mention of a village in Mortatsch comes from Leska. Leska was first mentioned in 1229. The name has its roots in Slavonic. Leska means hazel bush.

The Slavic name of this area dates from the 6th and 7th centuries when Slavs came to the country in the wake of the Avars. As a result, the Slavs were replaced by the Bavarians. The transfer took place peacefully. The Slavs and Bavarians lived peacefully side by side and the Bavarians took many names and place names from the Slavs. The town of Haselbach was first mentioned as Haselpach in 1265.

In the course of the revolution in 1848, the subordination of the peasants was dissolved and the peasant finally became the owner of the land. The first municipal council elections took place two years later.

On January 1, 1952, the local communities of Mortantsch, Steinberg bei Weiz and Haselbach bei Weiz, which had been established in 1850 and had been independent until then, were combined to form today's community of Mortantsch.
