Tollet is a municipality in Upper Austria in the Grieskirchen district in the Hausruckviertel with 921 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2020). The community is located in the judicial district of Grieskirchen .

geography

Tollet is 381 m above sea level in the Hausruckviertel. The extension is 4.8 km from north to south and 3.1 km from west to east. The total area is 9.6 km². 17.7% of the area is forested, 71.9% of the area is used for agriculture.

history

Tollet was first mentioned in a document in 1170. Originally located in the eastern part of the Duchy of Bavaria, the place belonged to the Duchy of Austria since the 12th century. From 1490 it is assigned to the Principality of Austria ob der Enns .

Tollet has had its own mayor since 1855. Since 1918 the place belongs to the federal state of Upper Austria. After the annexation of Austria to the German Reich on March 13, 1938, the place belonged to the Gau Oberdonau . The Reich Labor Service Department RADA 6/342 was housed in Tollet Castle. After 1945 the restoration of Upper Austria took place.

Population development

In 1991 the municipality had 788 inhabitants according to the census, in 2001 it had 867 inhabitants. Since both the birth balance and the migration balance remained positive, the population grew to 906 people in 2011.

Blazon : Split at an angle; above in gold a black, red armored cock with a red comb and red chin flaps, below in red a golden wheel with six plow knives (six) as spokes. The community colors are red-yellow-red.

The rooster in the municipal coat of arms awarded in 1989 is taken from the coat of arms of Bishop Franz Zauner of Linz , who was born in Tollet. The wheel refers to the only wagon museum in Austria in Tollet. The plow knives come from the Jörger coat of arms , who owned Tollet Castle for several centuries. Hahn and Rad also illustrate the agricultural character of the community.

  • Tollet Castle : The first fortification dates back to 1170. From 1601 and 1611, Hans V. Jörger von Tollet had the palace rebuilt in the Renaissance style. a. with a courtyard ambience with interesting grating from 1607, which have 48 fields with 46 different motifs. From 2002 to 2009 renovation of the castle. Today the District Home Hall Association Grieskirchen , a non-profit cultural association, has its seat at Schloss Tollet and has been operating the Kulturama Schloss Tollet Museum with exhibitions and concerts in the castle since April 23, 2009 .
