Holger Lorenz

Holger Lorenz (born June 16, 1969 ) is a German triathlete and Ironman winner.

Career

Holger Lorenz completed an apprenticeship as a toolmaker and was active as a semi-professional triathlete after completing his military service in the early 1990s. From the late 1980s he was one of the dominant triathletes in Germany for a decade. He started together with Thomas Hellriegel for TV Bretten, where Sebastian Kienle also started triathlon as a teenager in the mid-1990s . From 1997, Holger Lorenz started for the Hansgrohe Schramberg team, initially in the Baden-Württemberg LBS League and at the end of the season rose to the Triathlon Bundesliga , where they jointly won the bronze medal in the 1998 German team championship. Today Lorenz acts as the sporting director of Triathlon Kraichgau eV

The greatest successes of the 178 cm tall Badener, whose competition weight was 68 kg, were two top ten placements at the Ironman World Championship (1993 and 1997) and his victory at Ironman Australia in Forster in 1995, ahead of Péter Kropkó and Pauli Kiuru . He achieved his personal best on the Ironman distance in 1997 at Ironman Europe in 8:13:48 hours. In 1994 he became triathlon world champion in the team classification at the first ITU long distance world championship in Nice, together with Lothar Leder and Thomas Hellriegel. After winning the German Youth Championships in 1987, Holger Lorenz was on the podium four times in the elite at German Championships.

Holger Lorenz is married to his wife Carmen. Their first son Nils was born in 1999, followed a year later by his brother Luis. They live together in Bruchsal.
