NGC 4567/8 or KPG 347 or VV 219 are two spiral galaxies in the Virgo cluster in the constellation Virgo . The galaxies are also called "The Siamese Twins" or "The Butterfly Galaxies". The couple is believed to be in the early stages of the interaction.
Observation history
The object was discovered on March 15, 1784 by William Herschel . On June 10, 2004, during the Lick Observatory Supernova Survey in NGC 4568, SN 2004cc, a type Ic supernova was discovered. On January 20, 1990, Perlmutter and Pennypacker discovered it in NGC 4568 SN 1990B (Type Ib).
