action
It has been seven years since the events of the first film and a lot has changed: Johnny and Mavis are now married and have a young son named Dennis. However, this has no vampiric properties, which his grandfather Dracula does not want to accept. Mavis even thinks that Dennis would be better off living with her in-laws in California. Dracula decides to turn his grandson into a real vampire. However, if he does not succeed in this by his fifth birthday, it would no longer be possible. So he sends Johnny and Mavis to California on the grounds that they should take a break from their parental duties and that he would take care of the little one while doing so. Dracula sets out with his grandson and friends Frank , Murray , Griffin , Wayne and Blobbi to turn Dennis into a real monster. But when this does not work, which is due to the lack of talent of Dennis and his friends who have come out of practice, they drive to a vampire summer camp where he once learned to fly himself. Dracula has to realize there, however, that the camp has now completely changed and that practically nothing monster-like is being held. However, since he is still determined to turn Dennis into a vampire, he climbs with him on the old, dilapidated and locked diving platform, which is actually not allowed to be entered. From there he throws Dennis down, but Dennis doesn't turn into a bat. Dracula can catch him in time, but he gets a lecture from the camp leader. Dennis' fall was filmed and put on video and reached Johnny and Mavis in California, whereupon Mavis immediately set off for Transylvania.
When Dracula and the others arrive back at the hotel, the angry Mavis awaits them there. Now it is a done deal for her that she will leave with Dennis, which Dracula grieves deeply. But first they want to celebrate Dennis' fifth birthday, to which the grandparents and other relatives come. Mavis says that she also invited Dracula's father, Vlad. This worries him because Vlad has a deep dislike of people. Therefore, he claims the celebration is a masquerade ball, after which the human relatives dress up as zombies. When Vlad appears, he is disappointed by the missing fangs of his great-grandson, but does not become suspicious, because he simply considers him to be a "late tooth". During an attempt by him to coax Dennis's fangs with a fright, Dracula snaps at him, saying it wouldn't be worth it. Dennis feels guilty about this and leaves the party. But he is caught by Vlad's servant, the giant bat Bela, who hates people profoundly. But when Bela threatens Dennis' best friend, the werewolf Winnie, the vampire instincts awaken in him and he defends himself. Bela calls his bat attendants, but Dracula, Mavis, Johnny and all their friends come over and regain their former strength in the fight. Vlad, visibly impressed by the forces involved, shrinks Bela and banishes him when he tries to kill Johnny. Mavis now says that in view of Dennis' vampire abilities they could stay in Transylvania after all, which they are honoring with a great birthday party for Dennis.
