IC 412 = IC 2123 is a spiral galaxy of the Hubble type Sab in the constellation Orion in the northern sky . It is an estimated 189 million light years from the Milky Way and about 75,000 light years in diameter. Together with IC 413, it forms the gravitationally bound galaxy pair KPG 107 and is considered a member of the NGC 1819 group ( LGG 130 ).
In the same area of the sky are u. a. the galaxies NGC 1819 , IC 409 , IC 413 , IC 414 .
The property was discovered by Edward Barnard in 1888 .
