The Interstate 280 (abbreviated I-280 ) is an east-west interstate highway and a feeder of Interstate 80 . It connects I-80 in Parsippany-Troy Hills with Newark (New Jersey) and Interstate 95 , which forms part of the New Jersey Turnpike in this section . A special feature of the route is the William A. Stickel Memorial Bridge , a lift bridge over the Passaic River . The highway, which is 28.73 kilometers (17.85 miles) long, is also known as the Essex Freeway .
