Italobrothers (spelling: ItaloBrothers ) is a German music project from Nordhorn ( Lower Saxony ). It was founded around 2006 by Mathias Metten ( singer ), Kristian Sandberg ( songwriter ) and Zacharias Adrian ( producer ). While Metten and Adrian presented the trio at live performances and the music videos, Sandberg stayed in the background most of the time. In 2015, Zacharias Adrian left the project. His place was taken by the German producer Hanno Lohse alias Cody Island, who previously worked with the Italobrothers several times. Often, based on their name, it is wrongly assumed that the band comes from Italy .

Band history

Production & music style

At the beginning of 2005, producers Zacharias Adrian and Kristian Sandberg began making music together. They were mainly active in the Italo Disco genre , based on bands and performers such as B. Eiffel 65 , Prezioso feat. Marvin , Floorfilla , Gigi D'Agostino or Gabry Ponte . In November 2005 they founded the Italobrothers project together with the singer Mathias Metten . You have been under contract with the record label Zooland Records since 2006 , which is also firmly established in the genre such as B. Tune Up! , RIO or Cascada houses. They are available on various compilations (including Future Trance ), by download or on vinyl . Since her record deal with Kontor Records in 2012, the songs have also been released as maxi singles . The Italobrothers were able to achieve chart successes initially in the Scandinavian region, and since 2012 also throughout Europe, in Japan and America.

In addition to their own song production, ItaloBrothers also worked in the remix area. This resulted u. a. Remixes for Cascada and Floorfilla. In contrast to normal remixes, the Italobrothers do not use the vocals of the original, but sing the song again (hence the name ItaloBrothers New Voc Rmx ).

The singles Stamp on the Ground and Boom are very reminiscent of the 80s sound of ItaloDance. Stamp on the Ground is one of the most commercially successful songs on the project. He reached in the Scandinavian countries a. a. 11th in Norway, 14th in Denmark and 53rd in Sweden. The video for the song Boom was shot in the old Rawe building in Nordhorn; it was the last major event in the former factory. Since the authorities were not informed, the police stopped filming at short notice and stormed the building. After a successful investigation, the film continued. In the spring of 2012, they released the single Pandora 2012 , which was made for a girls' team called Pandora.

2005–2008: musical beginnings

The band was formed in November 2005. The three band members had been making music together since 2003. The first official release was The Moon . It was featured on the Zooland Italo EP released in July 2006 by Zooland Records .

In collaboration with the German Hands Up - Duo Tune Up! The song Colors of the Rainbow was released on January 22nd, 2007 . The track was written by the band producer Adrian and band lyricist and composer Sandberg himself and Jan Löchel, the singer of the legendary song Infinity 2008 by the Guru Josh Project .

After the first club hit in 2007, they made a name for themselves in German discotheques with the release of Moonlight Shadow , a cover version of the 1980 song of the same name by Mike Oldfield .

Their fourth single was Counting Down the Days and was released on May 14, 2007. In addition to the Italo-Dance versions, the single also contained a hands-up version of the German Eurodance trio Cascada in a hands-up style.

In addition, an EP was released in May 2007 with the title Counting Down the Days , which contains the titles Counting Down the Days , Colors of the Rainbow and Moonlight Shadow , but only on vinyl and as a download.

Where are you now? was the first single of the band in 2008. She appeared on 23 January 2008. However, the title did not represent the typical Italo sound of the trio , but the more the genre electronic music , mixed with hands-Up and House - Beats . An EP was announced along with the title, but it was never released.

2009–2010: Commercial success in Scandinavia

In 2009 a new single, So Small , was released, it is a cover version of the play of the same name by Carrie Underwood . The title was released in November 2009. It is the first single that became available directly on CD following the opening of the Zoo Digital sub-label . The song was also available as a rock and dance version on the single.

On September 25, 2009, one of their greatest hits to date, Stamp on the Ground , was released, which took the top 100 of all Scandinavian charts by storm. It is also the fifth most watched German music video of all time. The track was originally released in September 2009, but was still selected as the official song for the Norwegian Russefeiring Event 2010 . The song was republished throughout Scandinavia and became a huge success. The song reached number 11 in Norway, 14 in Denmark and 53 in Sweden. He also stormed the dance charts in Switzerland, Austria and Germany. The song received a gold record for 15,000 units sold in Denmark. The accompanying music video has been viewed over 108 million times on YouTube .

The first single in 2010 was Love Is on Fire . A title that, in contrast to several previous singles, fully represents the typical Italobrothers style. Several variants of the single were released. On the one hand the standard single with the radio and extended version and a remix as radio and extended versions, contributed by Rob & Chris . The second was a remix single with a total of three remixes and the third was a single with an acoustic version of the track. However, this single could not reach a chart position.

After the success of the re-release of Stamp on the Ground on, the album Stamp! . It was released in December 2010. The CD contained all singles released at that time and five new tracks. One of these titles, Upside Down , has been sued on a copyright complaint basis. The soundtrack was compared to the song Ja budu s toboj by the Russian singer Reda. Her label DaTa Musik initiated proceedings against the further release of the track, but nothing is known about a judgment in this process to this day.

In December 2010 the title Radio Hardcore was released. This single was also a great success and was able to achieve all sorts of chart positions; including place 25 in Denmark. Unlike the previous single releases, the single features six different versions of the title.

2011–2014: Commercial success in Central Europe

Mathias Metten at the Italobrothers 2012 live performance

In May 2011 a new track called Cryin 'in the Rain came out. This title differs significantly from the well-known Italobrothers style. This track consists of a ballad and house elements. However, there was also an “IB HandsUp! Remix” with the classic Italo-Dance style on the single. According to a press release, the single was viewed as an experiment.

For their next release, Boom , they worked with rapper Carlprit . The single was released on November 25, 2011. This track is back to its old style, but also contains dubstep parts while Carlprit raps. On February 12, 2012, a special edition of the title appeared on which a German, Spanish, Danish, Swedish and Norwegian version is available. Each version has a rapper who comes from the respective country and raps in his national language.

On April 13, 2012, they released the title Pandora 2012 . Like Stamp on the Ground 2010, this song was used as an anthem for the Norwegian Russefeiring event. However, this title was far from following the success of its predecessor.

The single My Life Is a Party followed in July 2012 . The song is a cover of the song Dragostea din tei by O-Zone from 2004. The radio edit of the song is still in the typical style of the ItaloBrothers, but the video and the title song consist of a remix from the German dance project RIO Es ist the first single from the record label Kontor Records appeared. Just one week after its release, the song entered the German charts and reached number 43. It was particularly successful in Austria, where it reached number 18 and was in the top 40 for more than 10 weeks. He was also able to reach the charts in Switzerland (62nd place), France (103rd place) and Belgium.

On March 4, 2013, the Italobrothers released a preview of their new single This Is Nightlife , which was released on March 15, 2013. Weeks before the release, further audio samples appeared that had already been clicked several thousand times. The song is based on the song Ecuador by SASH! from 1997. The band changed their musical style for this track. The style is similar to that of the title track of their last single. The song was able to surpass the success of the last single in Germany, Austria, Switzerland and France. In Germany the track reached number 41, in Austria 26, in Switzerland 22 and in France 24.

Produced for the Russefeiring event, a single in the well-known ItaloBrothers style was released on April 19, 2013 under the name Luminous Intensity . It is already the 2nd song by the Italobrothers in 2013. As it is a hands-up song , the track was only released via Zooland Records . In addition, after two remakes it is not a cover song.

With Up 'N Away the trio covered the song of the same name by Mr. President from 1994. The single was only able to achieve a chart placement in Austria. On November 27, 2014, the song POD (People Of DreamHack) continued their real hands-up style. The accompanying music video shows excerpts from the demo and LAN party DreamHack . Towards the end of the year they produced two singles with P. Moody. The first track is the song One Heart , which is a cover version of the song Anthem # 2 by Floorfilla from 1999. In France, they reached the official single charts for the first time with the song. The second track Let's Go was produced in collaboration with Cody Island in addition to P. Moody.

2015 to mid-2016: Expansion of the production team to include Hanno Lohse (Cody Island)

On April 24, 2015, the project released the song Springfield . This was done in collaboration with the Norwegian DJ and producer Martin Tungevaag , who previously landed hits with songs like Wicked Wonderland and Samsara . Springfield was based heavily on its Melbourne Bounce style and developed into a success in Norway, for which it was awarded triple platinum.

In spring 2015 it was announced that Zacharias Adrian would leave the project. In his place, the producer Hanno Lohse, who was previously active under the pseudonym Cody Island, joined the group. The ItaloBrothers and Hanno Lohse met for the first time on the track This is Nightlife , released in 2013 . At that time, Hanno Lohse knew how to convince with his remix (Cody Rmx). After another remix of the track One Heart , released in 2014 , Hanno Lohse started working as a producer and songwriter for the project in spring 2015. Since then, Mathias Metten has presented the project alone on stage.

In May 2015 the ItaloBrothers released the song Welcome to the Dancefloor . The melody of the track is based on the 1992 Eurodance hit Rhythm Is a Dancer by Snap! . Two months later, the stylistically contrasting hands-up production Sleep When We're Dead was released . The official music video in particular received a lot of attention and recorded high click figures. The song Kings & Queens was released towards the end of the year . This was created in collaboration with the Danish singer Amalie Sølberg, where the music video was also shot. The style of the song was based on the song Sun Is Shining by the Swedish DJ duo Axwell Λ Ingrosso , which was successful at the same time .

On July 1, 2016, they released the song Generation Party . This was based on a style similar to Springfield . A few months later the song Summer Air was released , which was heavily influenced by the tropical future bass style popular at the time .

End of 2016 to 2017: Summer Air

In the following year, Summer Air was re-released on, among other things, “ Ultra Music ”, whereupon the track immediately achieved great success in several Scandinavian countries. In Finland the title advanced to sixth place, in Norway to second place, where it also achieved gold status. In late summer, it also entered the charts of all German-speaking countries. In Switzerland it advanced to the top half of the chart. It has been awarded a gold record in Germany, Austria and Switzerland, among others.

In spring 2017 they released two songs in Scandinavia as part of The Russ '. The track Hasselhoff started in January 2017. Fiction Squad followed in March 2017 in a similar style to their previous success Sleep When We're Dead .

The follow-up single to Summer Air was released on October 6, 2017 . It was titled Sorry and was based on a similar style.

Since 2018: musical reorientation

On May 18, 2018, they released the song Looking Back Someday , which also followed the future bass style of Summer Air and Sorry . In an interview with Filtr Germany, Metten cited the reason for the decision to part with their original hands-up style that they wanted to show that they had developed further, that they had become older and, last but not least, their skills in other areas wanted to prove. The song Inside Out followed in August 2018 . The single Games was released in April 2019 .
