etymology

The place name Itterberg is probably derived from the nearby Itter. He describes a mountain near the Itter. In fact, Itterberg is located on a valley slope above the Itter.

history

The place was created in the second half of the 19th century and appears for the first time in the Solingen measuring table , edition 1893, the official topographic map 1: 25,000 on maps. At that time Itterberg belonged to the mayor's office in Wald . In the municipality lexicon for the Rhineland province of 1888, eight residential buildings with 58 inhabitants are given for Itterberg. In 1895 the district had eleven houses with 103 inhabitants, in 1905 ten houses and 78 inhabitants are given.

With the town union of Groß-Solingen in 1929 Itterberg became a district of Solingen. From the 1930s onwards, the town gradually lost its independent position and merged into the north-expanding residential and commercial areas of the Walders core town. Immediately between Felder Hof and Itterberg, a large industrial complex was built, which is now operated as the Solingen-Wald industrial park and houses various companies.
