Izet Hajrović (born August 4, 1991 in Brugg , Switzerland ) is a Bosnian - Swiss football player who is mainly used as a right winger. He has been under contract with Dinamo Zagreb since January 2018 .

Origin and family

Izet Hajrović was born in the small town of Brugg in German-speaking Switzerland and grew up in Birr in the canton of Aargau . His parents immigrated to Switzerland from former Yugoslavia in 1987 . His younger brother Sead is also a soccer player. He has been married to Leyla Hajrovic since 2014.

Grasshopper Club Zurich

Izet Hajrović was discovered in 1999 at the age of nine at FC Windisch during a junior tournament by a scout from the Grasshopper Club Zurich . In 2000 he switched to the E-Juniors of Grasshoppers Zurich and was trained as a professional football player.

At the beginning of the 2009/10 season he signed his first professional contract with Grasshoppers which ran until 2012. On October 3, 2009, the then 18-year-old made his professional debut against FC Luzern under coach Ciriaco Sforza . He was then used in the second team to gain more match practice. In the following season 2010/11 Hajrović played 21 league games. He contributed five goals and one assist and made a significant contribution to keeping the club in the Swiss Super League . In August 2010, the then 19-year-old made his UEFA Europa League debut against Steaua Bucharest . In March 2011 he extended his contract early to June 2015. By the end of the 2011/12 season, Izet Hajrović was used 43 times in the top Swiss division.

In the 2012/13 season he scored eight goals in 33 games in the Swiss league and was one of the discoveries of this season. Among other things, the then 21-year-old Hajrović ensured that the grass hoppers entered the final of the Swiss Cup and forced extra time there with his 1-1 equalizer . In the subsequent penalty shootout , Zurich secured the title.

In the summer of 2013, various European first division clubs expressed interest in Hajrović's commitment.

In the first half of the 2013/14 season, Izet Hajrović caused quite a stir with a foul on Lucerne goalkeeper David Zibung , whom he kicked in the face after a collision. Due to repeated assault on the field, he was also sentenced by the SFL to a ban of four competitive games.

Galatasaray Istanbul

On January 8, 2014, Hajrović moved to the Turkish first division club Galatasaray Istanbul for a transfer fee of 3.5 million euros . In his first four competitive games in February 2014, he contributed one goal and three assists.

Due to outstanding salary payments, Hajrović's lawyer sued the employer Galatasaray at FIFA in June 2014, demanding that his client 's contract be terminated and compensation.

Werder Bremen

After the contract was terminated, Hajrović switched to Bundesliga club Werder Bremen on July 10, 2014, with whom he signed a contract that was valid until June 30, 2018. He made his Bundesliga debut on August 23, 2014 (1st matchday) in a 2-2 draw in the away game against Hertha BSC ; He scored his first Bundesliga goal on April 26, 2015 (30th matchday) in a 2-2 draw in the away game against SC Paderborn 07 with the goal of the final score in the 76th minute. At Werder Bremen, however, he did not get beyond the role of a supplementary player. The dismissal of trainer Robin Dutt may also have contributed to this. His successor Viktor Skripnik preferred a classic 4-4-2 system with a midfield diamond, in which Hajrović's preferred position - that of the winger - does not exist.

SD Eibar

On August 31, 2015 it was announced that Hajrović would be awarded for one year to SD Eibar from the Spanish Primera División . There he could not assert himself and came only to seven missions. In the summer of 2016 he returned to Werder Bremen.

Werder Bremen

At Werder Bremen, Hajrović was initially given little prospect after his return. After the two disappointing years in Bremen and Eibar, he should actually be sold - also because of his high salary. However, there was no interested party, so he stayed in Bremen. On January 31, 2018, Hajrović moved to Dinamo Zagreb . Overall, Hajrović came for Werder in 38 Bundesliga games in which he scored two goals, and in three games in the DFB Cup , in which he scored a goal.

National team

Swiss Football Association (SFV)

Izet Hajrović began his national team career at SFV, the Swiss Football Association , with the U-20 and U-21 juniors in Switzerland . Coach Pierluigi Tami called him five times in the squad of the U-21 national team. He came to four missions.

On November 9, 2012, Hajrović was called up for an A international match for Switzerland for the first time under national coach Ottmar Hitzfeld . At the same time, the Bosnian Football Association expressed interest in his services. On November 14, 2012, Hajrović made his debut in the jersey of the Swiss national team . In the 2-1 win in the friendly against Tunisia , he was substituted on for Tranquillo Barnetta in the 84th minute .

In February 2013 Hajrović was reassigned to the Swiss A-team for the friendly against Greece , for which he was publicly criticized by his compatriot, the Bosnian striker Edin Džeko .

Bosnian-Herzegovinian Football Association (NFSBIH)

In June 2013, 21-year-old Hajrović traveled to Sarajevo for talks with the Bosnian-Herzegovinian Football Association (NFSBIH) and signed a letter of intent to play for Bosnia-Herzegovina in the future. The NFSBIH then submitted a transfer application for the player to the Swiss Football Association.

In August 2013, Hajrović received the game clearance for the national team of Bosnia-Herzegovina from FIFA , as the Swiss-Bosnian dual citizen had not played a competitive game for the Swiss national team. Under national coach Safet Sušić , he made his debut on September 6, 2013 in the qualifying game for the 2014 World Cup in the 1-0 defeat against Slovakia . In the 82nd minute he came on for Haris Medunjanin . He scored his first international goal in his second game on September 10, 2013, giving his team a 2-1 win against Slovakia. During the 2014 World Cup, he came to two missions.
