The scattered Jochberg houses are located above the Salzach Valley, on the sunny slope, on the left side of the valley, up to the Thurn Pass ( 1274  m above sea level ) and the Resterhöhe  ( 1894  m above sea level ) of the Kitzbühel Alps . The lower layers belong to Hollersbach, the upper ones on the Pass Thurn Straße  (B 161) and in the mountain area to Mittersill.

The two localities together comprise around 50 buildings with around 140 inhabitants, the majority of which are in the Hollersbach municipality. The local areas include, up the mountain, the individual layers Krammer (n) and Lahn , the actual scattered settlement Jochberg with Seetal , the individual layers Oberholzlehen , Alpschwend (all in Hollersbach), Gasthof Breitmoos on the B161, and then the localities of the ski area Resterhöhe, these are in particular Gasthof Resterhöhe and the Moseralm (the latter all in Mittersill).

The villages of Grubing , Lämmerbichl and Rettenbach am Bergfuß also belong to the Hollersbacher cadastral community .

The settlement at Pass Thurn itself does not belong to Jochberg, but to Passthurn von Mittersill. Other locations in Mittersill, to the southeast, are called Jochbergthurn .

Together with the Tyrolean part, Jochberg extends over 15 km north-south, almost the entire stretch from Mittersill to Kitzbühel.

history

Originally called the whole area in and around the present-day Pass Thurn yoke mountain , later, the passport was as Thurn tauern , and then as a passport recently Thurn referred. The name already appears as Turentauern in a document from 1292 and is common until the early 20th century, as long as the Tauernhaus Jochberg and the hospital on the Weitau (both Tyrolean side) were in operation.

Until 1803, both sides of the pass belonged to the Prince Archbishopric of Salzburg , and until 1810 to the Duchy of Salzburg , and the Thurn Pass was an internal mountain crossing, so that the common old place name has been retained. The local congregations were not created until 1848, after the revolution .
In 1936, as part of the unification of Mittersill-Markt and -Land, some areas on the Jochberg were ceded to Hollersbach. 1939–1945, when large communities were built all over Austria after the annexation, Hollersbach was then completely incorporated into Mittersill, which was canceled again.

The Resterhöhe ski area was built in 1959, and the gondola lift connecting Hollersbach to the Thurn Pass ski area in 2005.

Infrastructure and tourism

The upper locations can be reached on the Pass Thurn Straße from Mittersill , otherwise the slope is accessible from the valley towns of Rettenbach , Hollersbach and Dorf with a number of local roads and farm roads.

The Panoramabahn Kitzbüheler Alpen , leads from Grubing via Lahn - Seetal to the final ascent of the Pass Thurn Straße, with a middle station at approx.  1200  m , and then up to the Resterhöhe . The Resterhöhe 6-seater chairlift begins at the Thurn Pass , the Resterkogel 4-seater chairlift then leads from the north to the summit.

The Jochberg is - like the whole Salzach Valley sunny side - good and easy hiking and mountain biking area. The Arnoweg , a Salzburg further trail leads pass Thurn-Resterhöhe (Hohenweg on Kitzbuhler main ridge portion 2 Pinzgauer mountains , Section 17), the Zentralalpenweg (variant 02A) passes, coming from Mittersill, of the pass at the Wasenmoos -Oberholzlehen-Alpschwend- Schweinegg down to Mühlbach.
