Judenau-Baumgarten is a market town with 2288 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2020) in the Tulln district in Lower Austria .

geography

Judenau-Baumgarten is located south of Tulln on the southern edge of the Tullnerfeld . The municipality belongs to the main spatial planning region “ Lower Austria Central ” and is part of the Mostviertel landscape . The area of the market town covers 14.35 km², of which 15.1 percent is forested. From a climatic point of view, the municipality, like the entire Tullnerfeld, has a Pannonian climate , i. H. hot summers, cold winters.

The municipality is traversed in the west by the Große Tulln and in the east by the Kleine Tulln . The highest point is the northern summit of the wooded Auberg ( 355 m above sea level ) south of Freundorf, which belongs to the Molasse zone and consists of Robulus-Schlier .

Neighboring communities

history

The oldest known documentary mention as Yudinova comes from 1108/22. The ownership of the area changed from the Knights Matseber to the Baron Rueber. They sold Judenau Castle , which was destroyed during the first Turkish siege of Vienna in 1529, to Helmhard Jörger in 1583. Its new palace was destroyed again by the earthquake of 1590 . Even after that, the owners of the Judenau lordship changed, in 1701 the princes of Liechtenstein followed , who expanded the castle as a summer residence. In 1857 Alois von Lichtenstein donated the castle and gardens to the Lower Austrian orphanage fund. In 1877 Judenau was elevated to a market. The place was not renamed during the Nazi era .

Population development

The population has been growing continuously for 50 years. From 1991 to 2001 both the birth balance (+111) and the migration balance (+251) were very positive. In the following ten years, both the birth rate and immigration fell, but both balances remained positive.
