Kalkowo ( German  Kalkowen , 1938 to 1945 Kalkau ) is a place in the Polish Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship , which belongs to the urban and rural municipality Gołdap (Goldap) in the Gołdap district.

Geographical location

Kalkowo is eight kilometers southeast of the district town of Gołdap (Goldap) between the Jezioro Kołki (Kalkowener See , from 1938 to 1945 Kalkauer See) and the Jarka (Jarke) river . The eastern edge of the village is formed by the Ełk – Tschernjachowsk (Lyck – Insterburg) railway .

history

Even before 1565, the former was Vorwerk and later Well established that before 1581 still Kalkowa after 1818 Kallkowen and until 1938 Kalkowen said. The small town was a place within the municipality of Collnischken (1938 to 1945: Burgfelde, Polish: Kolniszki), which until 1945 belonged to the Goldap district in the Gumbinnen administrative district of the Prussian province of East Prussia .

On June 3, 1938, Kalkowen was renamed "Kalkau", seven years later the place was assigned to all of southern East Prussia as part of the war in Poland and has been called "Kalkowo" ever since. Today the place - albeit as a small settlement - is independent and a separate village within the network of the urban and rural municipality Gołdap in the powiat Gołdapski within the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship .

Religions

Before 1945, the small town of Kalkowen was part of the Protestant parish of the Church of Gurnen (Polish: Górne) in the parish of Goldap in the church province of East Prussia of the Church of the Old Prussian Union .

Today it belongs to the Catholic parish in Górne in the Diocese of Ełk of the Catholic Church in Poland .

Kalkowo is very remote and can only be reached via impassable country roads from the neighboring villages of Bronisze (Wittichsfelde) , Kolniszki (Collnischken , 1938 to 1945 Burgfelde) and Botkuny (Buttkuhnen , 1938 to 1945 Bodenhausen) . Until 1993 Górne (Gurnen) was the nearest train station on the Ełk – Chernyachovsk railway line , which is no longer operated for passenger traffic.
