Wrotkowo ( German  Friedrichowen , 1938 to 1945 Friedrichau ) is a place in the Polish Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship and belongs to the urban and rural municipality Gołdap (Goldap) in the Gołdap district .

Geographical location

Wrotkowo is located in the northeast of the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship in the east of the Seesker Höhe (Polish: Wzgórza Szeskie) and eight kilometers southeast of the district town of Gołdap (Goldap) .

history

The former Friedrichowen was founded around 1773. In 1874 the place became part of the administrative district of Gurnen (Polish: Górne), which until 1945 belonged to the district of Goldap in the administrative district of Gumbinnen in the Prussian province of East Prussia .

The number of inhabitants was 83 in 1910. It rose to 91 by 1933 and was 78 in 1939.

On June 3, 1938 (officially confirmed on July 16, 1938) Friedrichowen was renamed "Friedrichau" and came to Poland in 1945 following the war with southern East Prussia . Since then, the small place has been called "Wrotkowo" and is now part of the Gołdap urban and rural community in the Gołdapski powiat , until 1998 the Suwałki Voivodeship , and since then the Warmia-Masurian Voivodeship .

With its majority Protestant population, Friedrichowen resp. Friedrichau parish before 1945 in the parish of the church Gurnen (Polish: Górne) in the parish of Goldap within the church province of East Prussia of the church of the Old Prussian Union . The Catholic parish church was in Goldap in the Diocese of Warmia .

Since 1945 the almost exclusively Catholic residents have belonged to the newly established parish in Górne , which is assigned to the Gołdap deanery in the Ełk diocese of the Catholic Church in Poland . The Protestant church members orient themselves towards the parish in Gołdap , a branch parish of the parish in Suwałki in the Masuria diocese of the Evangelical Augsburg Church in Poland .

The little village of Wrotkowo, which is a bit out of the way, can be reached on a side road that branches off the Polish state road DK 65 (former German Reichsstraße 132 ) at Kozaki (Kosaken , 1938 to 1945 Rappenhöh) and via Zatyki (Satticken ) and Kamionki (Kamionken , 1938 until 1945 Eichicht) to Wilkasy (Wilkassen , 1938 to 1945 Kleineichicht) . There is no connection to the rail network.
