The license plate of Kosovo were introduced on 6 December 2010, and are usually white with black writing. The signs contain a blue stripe on the left edge with the letters RKS (for the Republic of Kosovo ) based on the Euro license plate . A two-digit number below indicates the corresponding region before the Kosovar coat of arms appears on the shield. This is followed by three digits and - separated by a line - two letters as a consecutive serial number.

Executions

  • License plates for trailers show dark blue letters, but otherwise resemble normal signs. Government license plates have a 3 and a Z at the beginning of the sign instead of the region code .
  • The Kosovar police have license plates with red letters on their vehicles. They first show the word POLICE , then the coat of arms, three digits and the code of the city.
  • The signs of the customs show a similar structure. First, the word CUSTOMS appears and, after the coat of arms, finally three digits and two letters. The font color is white, the background light blue.
  • Diplomatic license plates have a black background and white text. They show the letters RKS one above the other on the left edge . The combination consists of two digits, the letters CD and another three digits. The year of issue of the label is on the right edge.

The Kosovar license plates are only valid in those countries that recognize Kosovo as an independent state. Serbian license plates are also used in the Serbian enclaves . Since June 1, 2012, all vehicles with Kosovar license plates must also be registered there.

history

Serbian or Yugoslav license plate, PZ = Prizren
Kosovar license plate from 2001

Until the end of the Kosovo war in 1999, Yugoslav license plates were issued in Kosovo . Under the administration of the United Nations , new license plates were introduced from September 30 of the same year, which were initially intended to serve as a temporary measure. These showed a light blue line at the top and bottom, and on the far left the year of the first registration appeared in light blue letters. The actual combination consisted of three digits, followed by a hyphen and the letters KS for Kosovo. Another hyphen was followed by another three digits. No further conclusions regarding the exact origin of the vehicle could be drawn from the combination of numbers. Occasionally the signs were supplemented with unofficial blue bars with the Kosovar flag adopted in 2008 . Police vehicles had license plates in red. The Kosovo security forces carried special signs with the letters KSF . In the case of agricultural vehicles, the background was green and the writing was white.

After the country declared its independence from Serbia on February 17, 2008 , the current labeling system was introduced at the end of 2010.
